Operation Beautiful, I Am Impressed

August 10th, 2010 | Feel Good Things | No Comments »

So I read a lot of magazines, I mean a lot.  Mostly about fashion, new artists, oh yeah and celebrity gossip.  I know it may make me shallow but it sure is fun.  Anyways, in this month’s Glamour magazine I read about a girl who started a site called Operation Beautiful.  The owner of the site if a 26 year old named Caitlin.  Here is her mission

“The goal of the Operation Beautiful website is to end negative self-talk or “Fat Talk.”  If this little blog only does one productive thing, I hope it helps readers realize how truly toxic negative self-talk is  — it hurts you emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Through my own experiences fighting Fat Talk, I’ve realized the power behind an anonymous act such as Operation Beautiful.  When I post a note, I’m saying, “I CHOOSE to be positive!”

If you choose to participate just write a positive message on a post it note or some other sticky paper (I personally may be addicted to post it notes, I love to be surrounded by them) and write a positive message on it.  It does not matter who finds and reads the note just as long as it may have helped them feel better about themselves on a day that they may not be feeling 100%!

Did You Get Hit With A Wooden Spoon?

March 30th, 2010 | Anything and Everything | No Comments »

For those of you who do not know me, I am a Jersey girl now leaving in Florida. I was raised a by a feisty, single Italian mother..Love you Ma! Growing up I was not one to follow the rules…boring. I still don’t, but that is another post in itself.

I have a sister who is three years younger than me her name is Danielle. When Danielle and I would misbehave and make Joanie mad I can remember her threatening to pull the “Large Spoon” off the wall that resided right next to the “Large Fork” in our kitchen. At first we used to laugh at the thought of Joanie literally pulling the thing off the wall. But one day I guess she just got fed and up and actually did it!   Imagine this.. my mom chasing me and Danielle around the house with the “Large Spoon” screaming “stop running because when I catch you, you WILL be sorry!”

After our first experience with Joanie and the spoon I guess she realized that the spoon actually evoked fear in Danielle and I. So for the next few years whenever we were bad and Joanie needed to pull in the reigns we were chased with the spoon. Every once in awhile she would catch us, not fun!

Over the years I have met a lot of people who have had the same or similar experience with the “Large Spoon” so I have come up with a theory.  If you grew up in an Italian/American home in the North East all the mothers went to the same store to buy the “Wooden Utensils”.  Upon entering the store the clerk would request to see a picture of your children, this would determine how large the set of wooden wall utensils you were sold.

American Cancer Society Relay for Life Support Telicia!

March 26th, 2010 | Anything and Everything | No Comments »

One of my best friends, Telicia Stroman has recently overcome cancer.  She began feeling sluggish and tired all the time which is totally out of character for her.  After a visit to the doctor she was initially diagnosed with an iron deficiency.  She changed her diet, started to take supplements but still felt exhausted all the time.  After another visit to the doctor for a second opinion she was diagnosed with papillary cancer.  Uh oh!  She has since had surgery and the cancer is gone.  Yippy!  Besides the barely noticeable scar on her neck she is 100% again.

To celebrate her cancer success she has decided to Run the Relay for Life.  I told her she should also needs to get a cool tattoo to remember this milestone in her life, but that is just my opinion.

Please show your support for Telicia and everyone else who has battled or is still trying to beat cancer.

Summertime Tan

March 24th, 2010 | Beauty Products | No Comments »

Summer is almost here and I am the palest I have been in a long time. After years of being told the sun is bad for you, I have I have finally gave up and turned in my “Sun Godess” crown and decided to go the self tanner route.  I have read a lot of blogs and reviews online and decided to go with Jergens® natural glowexpress Body Moisturizer and all I can say is wow!  The color is natural so I don’t look like an Umpa Lumpa! When they say express they really mean it.  I was a shade darker after my first application, after the suggested 3 day application I have a golden glow.

The downfall of this self tanner as with any other one is the parts of the body where it seems to stick more.  Your ankles, elbows and sometimes your knees. The color shows up so quickly it is easy to fix spots that you may have missed on your first go round.  Yippy for being tan!

Rhea Drysdale Is An SEO Hero In My Book!

March 24th, 2010 | SEO | No Comments »

Can you believe that some random dude tried to trademark the term SEO? Yup it is true his name is Jason Gambert, here is a quote from his blog posted on April 9, 2008 as to his reason why he should be granted this trademark.

“My goal in owning the trademark for the word SEO is not to try to force people to change their SEO process, but rather, prevent companies from selling “SEO” as a service under false pretenses.

…We will also be forming a board of directors to oversee changes to the process, and format in which SEO can be sold (basically the BBB for the SEO industry). We will restrict businesses from selling the process of SEO as an “SEO” service if they do not meet the process approved by the SEO trademark requirements. Those approved will use SEO as normal, but will now be able to use the term as SEO™, and will be able to claim that their SEO service is approved under SEO trademark guidelines.

This power is for the people of the Search community and the protection of the general business consumer.”

In my best Rosie Perez voice “REEAAALLLY?”

On April 24, 2008 the nice folks over at SEOmoz made the SEO world aware of this Jason character and his attempt to regulate the industry.  Thanks guys!

Today Rhea Drysdale has successfully defeated Jason Gambert, you go Rhea! Today you are our hero in the SEO world.

My World of Curls

March 22nd, 2010 | Beauty Products | No Comments »

My hair is naturally curly and I live in South Florida.  For those of you with curly hair there is no need for me to explain any further how humidity can turn any day into a bad hair day!  I have tried every product designed for curly hair out there.  Expensive, inexpensive nothing seemed to do what I wanted.  Make my curls stick together and not get frizzy by the end of the day.  Well alas, after many bad hair days I have found an amazing product that has not let me down yet.  Best part is it costs less than $10.  It is part of the Marc Anthony product line.

When my hair is wet I towel dry by squeezing hair, never rub hair with towel it will separate your curls and make them frizzy. Use a generous amount of the Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Creme and then use a diffuser to blow dry. My hair never feels crunchy and lasts all day.  Sometimes it will even hold my curls through until the next day!
